Left Sided Back Pain from my Job

by Jerlyn

I have been working as a massage therapist for many years. Due to the physical nature of my job I suppose it was enevitible that at some stage there was going to be a knock on effect from my work.

For me that knock on effect was ongoing low back pain, predominantly left sided. I was getting quite worried that it was eventually going to stop me doing my job as I was in constant pain and it was even affecting my sleep.

In the end I decided to visit a Chartered Physiotherapist and with her help I have now fully recovered, and am back working again.

Her approach to dealing with the pain was multi faceted. She did some Physio and in conjunction with this she educated me about my posture when I work, and I now understand how bad posture will eventually catch up with you.

In addition to the Physiotherapy my Physio recommended doing Pilates to help with good posture and strength. I cannot recommend Pilates highly enough, the benefits I have felt since taking it up are huge and I am able to work and live pain free again.

Hi Gerlyn,

I am delighted that you had such a sucessful story! I believe posture is the primary cause - but also the primary treatment - for back and neck pain so your physio has my style! As for Pilates - keep it up! Sally Ann
