Manage Back Pain

Pilates worked for my back pain

by Mike
(London)

I was sick and tired of spending half my earnings on doctors, physios and chiropractors. Although they all helped me manage my lower back pain it always returned year after year. I play alot of tennis and had developed an imbalance in my muscles which was pulling my spine out of alignment and causing pressure on my lumbar discs.

Anyway, eventually a physio recommended that I take up Pilates. So, I did with a local Physiotherapy Practice where I felt would provide me with the correct Pilates for my back pain. Although Pilates didnt have an immediate effect, I did feel stronger and taller within weeks. I have been doing it weekly now for 18 months, and touch wood I have had no bad back pain episode. Before this I was having a bad episode every 6 months. I feel strength in my tummy and lower back like I never felt before. I wont be giving it up!

Pilates and back pain
by: Anonymous

Hi Mike,

Great news! Well done. I always feel so happy when I hear of people sticking at Pilates over time. I have been doing pilates for 8 years now and if I stop for longer than a week my back pain returns. So keep it up, and I hope the back pain stays away!
