Manage Back Pain - Main CategoriesSpine Anatomy Spinal anatomy is very complex - however, here I attempt to make it as simple as possible. Back Pain Causes What are the main Causes of Back Pain? How can you tell them apart? Back Pain Symptoms No - you aren't imagining that Back Pain. But ... there are many subtle differences in symptoms when it comes to diagnosing your type of Back Pain. Lower Back Pain This is the most prevalent type of Back Pain. Hip Pain Hip pain may be coming from the hip itself, or it may be coming from your lower back and pelvis. 50% of the cases I see of hip pain have a lower back component. 50% do not. Buttocks Pain Buttocks Pain is quite literally - "a pain in the proverbial"! So, what can you do about it? Back Pain Muscle Spasms Muscle spasms are a very common symptom associated with many back and neck injuries and conditions. Back Pain Treatment Back Pain Management and Treatment can involve a number of approaches. Here are some techniques to get you started. Back Surgery Overall, I am not a fan of spinal surgery unless it is absolutely necessary. From the thousands of backs that I have treated over the past 16 years, I have only twice suggested spinal surgery; I am relieved to say that on both occasions it was a success as the client had exhausted all other options. Back Pain Remedies When you are suffering from Back Pain - you WANT to believe that there is a product out there that will work for you. Exercises For Back Pain Once your Back Pain healing has begun, it is essential to undertand safe types of exercises for strengthing your back. Pregnancy and Back Pain Pregnancy is a time when Back pain becomes an unwelcome visitor for many women. So, what can you do about it? Whiplash Whiplash - usually as a result of a motor accident - is often let go too long before the correct treatment. So, what can you do about it? TMJ Pain TMJ Pain - TMJ Problems are varied and many. Here we go through the signs/symptoms of TMJ pain and effective treatments. Back Arthritis Arthritis is very normal and does not need to associated with pain in many situations. After all we are all predisposed to wear and tear - which is in essence what arthritis is. Spinal Stenosis Spinal stenosis is a very common finding in my clients. I think it is frequently misdiagnosed in assessments where clients are treated for a joint or muscle strain when they should be treated more specifically for spinal stenosis. Scoliosis The treatments for scoliosis are many and largely very effective. Functional scoliosis should resolve fully with manual therapy and specific exercises. Idiopathic scoliosis is more complicated, but if addressed at a young age often does well with Craniosacral Therapy and exercises. Surgery is complex and extreme, but often necessary, and effective once combined with manual therapy. Herniated Disc A herniated disc may cause no symptoms and have no effect on your life whatsoever. It is common for people to have some degree of disc herniation without symptoms. However if your disc presses or impinges on your spinal cord or peripheral nerves, you will have symptoms associated with this. Isthmic Spondylolisthesis Isthmic spondylolisthesis is where one vertebra slips forwards on another. When one vertebra moves forwards out of that alignment it is referred to as spondylolisthesis - "spondylo" meaning spine and "listhesis" meaning slippage. Sciatica Treatment What is Sciatica? What are the causes of Sciatica? What can you do to treat Sciatica effectively? Lumbar Lordosis Your lumbar lordosis is the curve at the base of your spine. Looking at your back from the side you will notice that your spine naturally curves inwards at the neck and lower back and outwards in the middle.
